Description

A stainless vise that turns the work instead of making you turn around it.

304 stainless, 400 grams in the hand, and a base that swivels a full circle and locks where you put it. This is the vise you keep beside the press for the work you do by hand - setting a stone, filing a case back, soldering a joint, inspecting a movement under a loupe.

The numbers

  • Jaw width 30 mm (1.2 inch), opening to 30 mm, clamping depth 17 mm.
  • 304 stainless throughout. Not painted cast iron with a chrome cap.
  • Base 60 mm, 360 degrees, locked with a brass thumbscrew.
  • 92 mm long, 48 mm tall closed. 400 g. Heavy for its size, and that is the point - mass is what stops a small vise walking across the bench.

What it does not do

It does not bolt to the drill press base. There is no M3 pattern on it and we are not going to pretend there is. Under a spinning bit you want the drill press vise or the brass vise on its XY stage - both of those are made to be fixed to the machine. This one is a bench tool, and a good one.

It will also not hold anything wider than 30 mm. A 1.2 inch jaw is a 1.2 inch jaw.
