Description

A vise you hold, with brass jaws that grip the part without marking it.

Some work never goes near the drill press. You are filing a screw head, soldering a link, deburring a bezel, turning something over under a loupe. For that you want the work in your hand, not bolted to a table across the room.

  • Brass jaws. Brass is softer than steel, silver, gold and a watch plate, so the jaw gives up before your work does.
  • Adjustable opening with a thumbscrew, one-handed.
  • Small enough to work in. It fits in a palm and it fits in a drawer.

Be clear about what this is not

It does not bolt to the drill press base, and you must not hold it under a spinning bit. A hand vise under a drill is how people get hurt: the bit grabs, the vise turns, and your hand is attached to it. For drilling, use the drill press vise or the brass vise with the XY stage - both bolt down.

This is a bench companion, not a drilling fixture. We would rather say that plainly than let a photograph imply otherwise.
